- China’s auto exports to Russia hit a record high in August, with Chinese brands taking nine of the top 10 spots on the country’s auto sales chart.
- Russia’s imports of Chinese cars rose 26 percent in August from the previous month and 50 percent from a year earlier to a record high of $1.6 billion (S$2.07 billion), RIA Novosti reported, citing data from Chinese customs.
- This raised the Russian market’s share of China’s auto export mix to 19.1 percent, an increase of 2.7 percentage points from July and second only to 20.3 percent in June this year.
- In the first eight months of this year, Chinese automakers supplied cars worth a total of $9.15 billion to the Russian market, 34.6 percent higher than the $6.8 billion in the same period last year.
- According to China’s automotive data center CAC Digital Research, the top 10 auto brands in Russia’s August sales list, in addition to the top-ranked Russian local brand Lada (Lada), the remaining nine seats are Chinese brands.
- The second to fifth place on the list are Haval, Chery, Geely, Changan and other Chinese car companies, single-month sales are more than 10,000 units; sixth to tenth place, there are four brands are Chery Automobile sub-brands in Russia. This is equivalent to Chery in August sales list alone accounted for half of the mountain, combined sales of more than 30,000 units.
- According to a survey by Autostat, a Russian automotive analyst, Chery is the most commonly seen Chinese car brand on the streets of Russia. As of July 1 this year, 1.86 million Chinese-brand passenger cars were registered in Russia, accounting for 4 percent of the total market.
